Good News at WMUU!
by Paul Wright, Station Manager
If you’re a frequent listener to WMUU, thank you for tuning
in. If we’ve never had the pleasure of your company, we’re delighted to make
your acquaintance, and we hope you will return to 94.5 FM and our website
often.
Occasionally I’m asked if WMUU is a Christian or a secular
station, and that’s a fair question since we air both sacred music and
Christian programming as well as Easy Listening music. I’m always very glad to
tell the WMUU story. Not just because I work here, but because it’s a story
that has been making – and continues to make - an eternal impact on teeming
thousands of lives since going on the air on September 15, 1949.
To answer the question directly, WMUU is a Christian
station. Since our first day of broadcasting, the number one goal of WMUU has
been to have a spiritual impact on the communities we serve. Our only desire
is to point men and women, boys and girls to the Lord Jesus Christ in
everything we do. Our wholesome secular music and our sacred programming are
all designed to raise a godly standard for Christ. We want to present Christ
as the only Son of God who left heaven’s glory to become the God-Man. We want
to tell the Gospel story of how Jesus Christ “died for our sins according to
the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day
according to the Scriptures.” (I Cor. 15:3-4) We want all men everywhere to
know that Christ’s shed blood is the only currency that can or will be accepted
in the judgment court of Heaven to redeem sinful man. Every musical note,
every word spoken on WMUU has but one purpose: to point men and women to the
Savior.

We try to present the Gospel on the air every day. Perhaps
you haven’t heard it, or you don’t understand the Gospel message. Please let
me take a moment to tell you God’s plan to make you His child and to provide
you an eternal home in Heaven. To do so, I’ll use the little acronym LORD
meaning LOST, no OTHER way, REPENT, and DEPEND.
Before we can receive God’s salvation and be saved from an
eternity in Hell, we must realize we are LOST. This first step is very
often the hardest for people to accept. We all see ourselves as pretty good.
As we look around, we can almost always say, “I’m not as bad as that guy.”
All of us will admit that we have done some wrong things, but we somehow think
a loving God will overlook our sins. We like to think He will look at
everything we have done in our lives and find that the good things out weigh
the bad, and the Almighty will allow us into Heaven.
That’s a nice thought, but it is
wrong. The Bible is clear about how God sees us. “The Lord looked down from
heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand,
and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there
is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Psalm 14: 2-3) “All have sinned and
come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Also in the New Testament book
of Romans, God’s Word tells us, “As it is written, there is none righteous, no,
not one.” (Romans 3:10) Both the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible agree
on man’s desperate condition. The prophet Isaiah wrote, “All we like sheep
have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath
laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6) God doesn’t compare us to
other men. He compares us with His only begotten Son - Jesus Christ who is
absolutely perfect and without sin. “For we have not
an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but
was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Heb 4:15)

You might ask, “So what! If we’re all sinners, we’re all in
the same boat.” It is imperative you
understand that God is a holy God who cannot look upon sin.
His holiness demands that your sin and mine be judged. Before God can allow us
into Heaven, our sin debt must be paid in full! That’s the problem. One day
you will stand before God and everything you have ever done will be judged by a
holy, all-seeing, all-knowing God. Every thought you have ever had, every deed
you have ever done or left undone, every word spoken will be perfectly recalled
before the judgment bar of God. The Bible puts it this way: “And, as it is
appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) When
you stand before God’s judgment throne, all your good works and charitable giving
won’t help you. If the blood of Jesus Christ has been applied to your soul
through faith in Christ’s death on the cross, you will receive God’s greatest
gift of eternal life. If not, you will be given your eternal wages for rejecting
God’s Son and His offer of eternal life. “For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
The first step in being saved is to come to the realization that you are
eternally LOST and on your way to Hell!
When the convicting power of the
Holy Spirit convinces us we are sinners before God, our first reaction is often
to “turn over a new leaf” and get busy doing good things. In short, we attempt
to work our way to Heaven, hoping our good deeds will outweigh the bad. The
Bible says our good deeds are foul rags. “But we are
all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like
the wind, have taken us away.” (Isaiah 64:6) God has provided a way for us to
get to Heaven, and there is no OTHER way to be saved from our sins except
submitting to the way God tells us in his Word.
Many
of us think going to church every Sunday will get us to Heaven. Some think
being kind and friendly to others will save us. Still others believe giving
their time and their money to worthy causes will be enough to have God look
favorably on us and admit us to a heavenly home. Jesus Christ said plainly, “I
am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.”
(John 14:6) God provided the way to Heaven and no other method will work. You
see, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosever
believeth in Him (Jesus Christ) should not perish but have everlasting life.”
(John 3:16)

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Because
our sin nature is a great offence to a Holy God, you and I do not deserve to go
to Heaven, but God provided a way, the only way. There is nothing we can do
to save ourselves from an eternity in Hell. Christ’s death on the cross
provides the only acceptable sacrifice to pay our sin debt. “Not by works of
righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the
washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” (Titus 3:5) The
Bible also makes clear that “For by grace are ye saved through faith and that
not of yourselves. It is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should
boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Clearly, no OTHER way will get you to
Heaven.
So if
we recognize we are LOST sinners and that we cannot save ourselves, what
can we do? Let me say it again, we can do nothing, absolutely nothing. It
has all been done for us by God’s Son, Jesus Christ. God’s court of justice
demands that our sin be paid for with blood. Not just any blood, but the blood
of a spotless, perfect Person who was willing to take our place as a sacrifice
for our sin. The writer of Hebrews says, “And almost all things are by the law
purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22) Remission means to release from the
penalty. The only way God will release you and me from the penalty of sin is
with the payment of blood from a perfect, spotless sacrifice. It is our faith
– our total trust – in the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ that saves us from
Hell. We must believe that Christ died in our place, to pay our sin debt. Our
faith in His sacrifice saves us, not our works, not our benevolence, not our
generosity. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other
name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) Christ paid our sin debt in its entirety. Nothing is lacking. Nothing can be
added. It is “once and for all” settled. All you must do is reach out, by
faith, and accept this priceless gift God offers you. There is no OTHER
way!
In my mind’s eye, I often visit the day I realized I was a
sinner on my way to Hell. It was many years ago when I was a twelve year old
boy. As the preacher spoke, the Holy Spirit made me see my desperate
condition. I didn’t know exactly what to do, but I knew if I got to Jesus, I
would be all right. The weight of my world was lifted off my shoulders when I
prayed a simple prayer and asked the Lord Jesus to forgive my sin and to come
into my heart and make me His child.

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God.
| |
The same can happen to you. All you have to do is REPENT
of your sin and ask Christ to save you and give you a home in heaven. He will
do it. The Lord Jesus told us, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any
man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with
him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)
When God tells us to repent, He means we must change our
mind, go in a different direction, and experience a genuine abhorrence for our
past sins. We must start living God’s way and not our own, self-centered way.
All too often, people repent and are sorry because their sin was uncovered and
they were caught. That is not godly repentance. That is a salve for our
conscience. Jesus Christ plainly said, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye
repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3)

Why don’t you cry out to Him now right where you are. Tell
God that you realize you are a LOST sinner on your way to Hell. Tell
Him you know there is no OTHER way to be saved except believing Christ
Jesus died in your place to pay your sin debt. “But God commendeth His love
toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans
5:8) God has promised “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord
Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
God not only saves us from eternal punishment in Hell, but He
stays with us as we journey through life. We can – and must – DEPEND on
Him. In fact, it is impossible for you and me to live a Christian life
without the empowering of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In his encouragement
to Timothy, the Apostle Paul wrote, “…nevertheless, I am not ashamed: for I
know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He (Christ Jesus) is able to
keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day (of judgment).” (2
Timothy 1:12) For many years, I’ve found the Person described in Jude 24-25
completely able to do what the verses claim: “Now unto Him (Jesus Christ) that
is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the
presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be
glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”
|

Why don’t you cry out to Him now right where you are.
| |
My dear friend, if you see yourself as LOST and see
there is no OTHER way to be saved from Hell but by placing your faith in
what Christ has done for you, then why don’t you bow your head and REPENT
of your sin. God will save you and keep you along the way. You can DEPEND
on the LORD to adopt you into His family forever. I’m praying you will
come to Christ right where you are…right now!
